The Glee Reboot Is Real: Your Biggest Questions Answered

Glee is coming back. Disney+ and Hulu handed a series order to a new version of the show on October 21, 2026, more than a decade after the original wrapped on Fox. My group chat lost its mind, and I suspect yours did too. So let's slow down and go through the questions people actually keep asking.
Is this really happening, or just talk?
It's real. This isn't a vague "we're exploring it" quote from a red carpet. There's an official series order, the studio is 20th Television (the same one behind the original), and co-creator Ryan Murphy has already written a script. Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk are involved too.
Will the original cast come back?
This is the big one, and the honest answer is that nobody knows yet. Murphy says he has been in touch with around ten original cast members, but no casting was part of the announcement. Chris Colfer put it best in an interview with Bustle, saying it would be really hard to do now that Naya is gone, but that fans would come after him "with pitchforks and jazz hands" if he said no. I think that mix of hesitation and affection is exactly where most of the cast probably sits.
Any return carries real weight. Cory Monteith died in 2013 and Naya Rivera in 2020, and a reboot has to handle that with care.
Why now, of all times?
This part makes total sense to me. All six seasons stream on Hulu, where a whole new generation found the show after it ended. Disney says Glee still pulls around 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. That's a show that ended in 2015 still behaving like an active music brand. A reboot can feed new songs into that catalog, which is a pretty easy business case.
The awards history doesn't hurt either. The original won six Emmys, including Murphy's first, for directing the pilot.
What will it actually look like?
Nothing official yet. No plot, no episode count, no production date. If I had to guess, the most likely shape is a new glee club with a few familiar faces as mentors, because that's how most school-set revivals work. A return to McKinley High in Lima, Ohio would be the obvious nostalgia play. Personally I'd love a mix of current pop and old Broadway numbers, since that was always the show's sweet spot.
When can we watch it?
No date has been announced. Musicals take longer than regular dramas because songs have to be arranged, recorded and choreographed before cameras roll. 2027 at the earliest feels realistic, but that's my guess, not a confirmed schedule. Watch for casting news first. That's usually the sign filming is close.
For the full rundown of the order, the creative team and what the numbers say about the brand, this Global Celebrity Meter piece on the Glee reboot is a good place to catch up.
I'm cautiously excited. Glee was messy, loud and sometimes ridiculous, and that's exactly why people still love it.
