Thirty Years of Fantasy Bras, and Why the 2026 Return Hit So Hard

Image
Some fashion traditions fade quietly. The Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra disappeared for years and then came back in the loudest possible way, worn by Kylie Jenner on October 18, 2026, with a reported price of $50 million. To understand why the internet lost its mind, it helps to look at where the idea started. How it began The first Fantasy Bra appeared in 1996, in a print ad with Claudia Schiffer, valued at $1 million. It was a novelty, a jewel-covered piece of marketing. Then it grew. Heidi Klum's Millennium Bra in 1999 was priced at $10 million, and Gisele Bundchen's Red Hot Fantasy Bra in 2000 hit $15 million, a record that stood for more than two decades. The long pause Elsa Hosk wore the last runway version in 2018, an Atelier Swarovski design priced at $1 million. After that, nothing. For a tradition built on spectacle, the gap made the eventual return feel like a reunion. The 2026 version This year's piece was designed by Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. Ac...

Last-Minute Halloween Ideas Inspired by the Year's Biggest Pop Culture Moments

Image
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, which means more parties and fewer excuses to show up in cat ears. If you are still costume-less, do not panic. The good news is that 2026 has already handed us plenty of ideas, and most of them are easier to pull off than you think. My one rule: pick a reference people will recognize from across the room, then nail one detail. That is it. Nobody at a dark house party is studying your stitching. Borrow from the music world Billboard's costume guide pointed to some big music moments this year. Bad Bunny's shrub look from his Super Bowl LX show is a fun group option, and it is the sort of thing that gets funnier with more people. If you want minimal effort, Pitbull is about a bald cap, aviators and a suit. A Charli XCX "Brat" nod can be as simple as a tank top, messy hair and dark glasses. I love these because they cost almost nothing. Go with a movie character Several outlets flagged Nikki from the horror hit Obsession as ...

The Night a Museum Fundraiser Became a Pop Moment

Image
Most charity galas are remembered by the people who attended and forgotten by everyone else within a day. The sixth annual Academy Museum Gala on October 17 went the other way. By the next morning, a film-world fundraiser had become one of the most shared pop moments of the month, and the reason was Taylor Swift. It is a little unfair to the honorees, so let me start there. Charlize Theron received the Icon Award from Sigourney Weaver. John Carpenter took the Luminary Award, presented by Robert Rodriguez, after Jamie Lee Curtis spoke about the lasting power of horror and the museum's new exhibition, The Horror Show. Colman Domingo received the Vantage Award from Tom Ford. The night, presented with Rolex, raised more than $14 million for the museum's exhibitions, education and screenings. That is the real purpose of the evening, and it deserves a mention before the music. Then came the set Conan O'Brien, her Toy Story 5 castmate, introduced Swift by calling her "Joh...

Planning to See U2 in 2027? Here Is What Fans Should Know Before Buying

Image
U2 are going back to stadiums, and I will admit the news made me a little emotional. The band has not played a stadium since The Joshua Tree Tour wrapped in Mumbai on December 15, 2019. Now The Greatest Show On Earth World Tour is official, with a first leg in Latin America and promises of much more. If you are thinking about going, here is how I would approach it. First, know what is actually confirmed. Right now that means six shows, all with Beck as special guest: Mexico City at Estadio GNP Seguros on February 23 and 26, 2027; Sao Paulo at Estadio MorumBIS on March 10 and 12; and Buenos Aires at Estadio River Plate on March 23 and 25. Two nights in every city tells you the band expects huge demand. Second, be skeptical of anything beyond those six. U2 says Europe and North America dates will be announced "in the coming weeks," and a homecoming in Ireland is "in the works." No cities, venues or dates have been named for those legs. Any list you see shared onlin...

Waiting for Heated Rivalry Season 2? A Fan's Quick Guide to the Facts

Image
If your feed has been full of hockey romance lately, you are not imagining it. Heated Rivalry Season 2 is filming in Toronto, the cast keeps growing, and fans are hungry for any scrap of news. The trouble is that a lot of what circulates online is guesswork. So here is a quick, honest guide to what is confirmed and what is not, plus a few personal opinions. When is it coming back? Creator Jacob Tierney has narrowed it to "late spring" 2027 on Crave in Canada and HBO Max. He also said, "I don't have an official date yet. I'm not hiding anything." So if you see a specific premiere date, it is not from him. Filming started on August 17, 2026, and continues through the fall. The episode count is also unofficial. Tierney has said he prefers six episodes a season, telling the Los Angeles Times he would "rather tighten the belt than get loosey-goosey." I agree with him. Six tight episodes beat ten with filler. What story does it tell? The season is ...

When the Diagnosis Disappears: What Christina Applegate's Update Teaches Us

Image
You would expect "you don't have MS" to be good news. For Christina Applegate, it was not, and the way she described that moment has stayed with me since I heard it. On October 20, in a two-part episode of MeSsy, the podcast she hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate said her doctor came in and told her, "Congratulations, you don't have MS." Everyone around her was happy. She was not. "You don't get misdiagnosed and then all of the sudden I'm better," she said. "I haven't gotten better, Jamie! If anything, I've gotten worse." Losing an answer is its own kind of loss Applegate went public with an MS diagnosis in 2021. Since then she has written about it in her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, built a podcast around life with chronic illness, and become, as she put it, one of "the poster children for MS" alongside Sigler. So the news did not only change her medical file. It knocked out the explanation she had be...

Drake at 40: A Party, a Speech and a Very Big Number

Image
Turning 40 is a big deal for anyone. For Drake it came with designer handbags, a game show, the Backstreet Boys and an industry record, all inside one weekend. It would be easy to treat it as pure spectacle, but I think the weekend tells a sharper story about where his career stands. The party About 400 guests packed into Casa Cipriani in Lower Manhattan on Friday, October 23, a few hours before his birthday on the 24th. Reports say guests left with Chanel and Hermes bags, and a game-show-style giveaway offered cash prizes starting at $10,000 and topping out at $1 million. Drake wore a sparkling black tuxedo jacket with a diamond "D" pin, because of course he did. The musical surprise was the Backstreet Boys, with Drake joining them for "I Want It That Way." This was not random. In 2022 the group brought him out in Toronto and introduced him as their "sixth member," and he has called it one of the greatest songs of all time, tied to a memory from his b...

Third Place, First-Class Result: Reading the Wildwood Opening the Right Way

Image
Headlines love a winner, so a film that opens in third place usually gets a polite shrug. I think that would be the wrong reaction to Wildwood. LAIKA's hand-built fantasy took an estimated $11.6 million from 2,942 theaters in its first North American weekend, behind Clayface at $24 million and You Can See Everything at $19.5 million. On paper, bronze. In context, something closer to gold. Start with expectations. Early projections sat between $6 million and $8 million, and the stated hope going into the weekend was simply to reach double digits. Thursday previews were around $1 million. Beating tracking by that much, for an original-feeling stop-motion film, is not a small thing. The LAIKA yardstick The fairest comparison is with LAIKA itself. Missing Link opened to $5.9 million in 2019. Kubo and the Two Strings, also directed by Travis Knight, opened to $12.6 million in 2016 and went on to $48 million domestically. Wildwood landed just under Kubo and roughly double Missing Lin...

Ari Aster's Secret Project Adds Another Name: What We Know About Scapegoat

Image
Ari Aster has a talent for making people nervous before a single frame is released. His next film, Scapegoat, now has Cory Michael Smith in the cast, and the more names that join, the stranger it feels that nobody can say what the movie is about. Here are the questions I keep seeing, with the answers that are actually on the record. Who is in it? Scarlett Johansson leads. She signed on first, in May, followed by Jacob Elordi in August and Jude Law in late September. Ella Purnell, Caleb Landry Jones and Samba Schutte were added a couple of days after Law. Smith, reported by Deadline on October 21, is the latest arrival. His role has not been disclosed, which seems to be the theme of this whole project. So what is the plot? Nobody knows, and the rumors contradict each other. One version says the story involves a doctor who operates on an internet-famous person. Another calls it a sci-fi romance. A third claims it is closer to a traditional drama than anything Aster has made. Insider...

From One Night in London to Seven Countries: RAYE's Orchestral Journey So Far

Image
Some artists build a career one single at a time. RAYE seems to build hers one big night at a time, and each one keeps getting bigger. Her October 23 show at the Royal Albert Hall, where she performed her second album with a full orchestra, is the latest step. Looking back at how she got here makes the next move feel less surprising and more like a plan. 2023: the first symphony It started with My 21st Century Symphony, a one-night performance at the Royal Albert Hall backed by the 50-piece Heritage Orchestra and the Flames Collective. The concert was filmed, released on vinyl, broadcast on the BBC and PBS, and later nominated for Best Music Film at the 68th Grammy Awards. For a one-off, that is quite a life. 2024: the arena test A year later she took the same idea to The O2 in London for a sold-out headline show with the same orchestra and choir. That same year she won six BRIT Awards, including Album of the Year, the most any artist has won in a single year. The orchestra was no...

A Rivalry Set to Music: Why the Riley Green and Peyton Manning Duet Works

Image
I usually roll my eyes when a famous athlete turns up on a country record. Too often it feels like a marketing meeting with a fiddle on top. So I was ready to dislike "Alabama Vs. Tennessee," the new college football song from Riley Green featuring Peyton Manning. Then I watched the video and, honestly, I laughed. The premise is simple. Green is from Jacksonville, Alabama. Manning is about as Tennessee as a person can get. The track, released this month through Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, lets them argue about the old Southern football feud, and the official video drops them into a honky-tonk with beers in hand, trading playful jabs. It does not pretend to be deep. It is a tailgate song, released right in the middle of the season, and it knows exactly what it is. What makes it land is that neither man is a tourist. Green played quarterback at Jacksonville State before music took over. Manning's Tennessee resume is ridiculous: 11,201 passing yards, 89 ...

Light Sticks at the Movies: How K-Pop Turned Cinemas Into Concert Halls

Image
A few years ago, the idea of paying cinema prices to watch a concert on a screen sounded like a consolation prize. This week it looks more like a business plan. HYBE Cine Fest 2026, the festival HYBE runs with distributor Trafalgar Releasing, is playing in more than 60 territories from October 24 to 31, and it opened at No. 6 in North America with about $4.5 million. That is a real number for a limited event, and it says a lot about where fan culture is heading. What is actually on the program? Six presentations packed into one week. The headliners are two live broadcasts from the BTS "Arirang" world tour: Buenos Aires, the group's first show in Argentina, and Sao Paulo, the final stop of the Latin American leg, which screens October 30 in the Americas and October 31 elsewhere. Around them sit concert films from Seventeen, TXT and Enhypen, plus a 3D "HYBE Cheering Party" built on music videos from 13 acts, where fans are encouraged to bring light sticks and s...

Choosing the Next 007: What Screen Tests Reveal About the Bond Search

Image
The search for the next James Bond has moved from rumor to the camera. This weekend, screen tests are reportedly taking place in London, and a short list of names is finally coming into focus as Amazon MGM Studios looks for Daniel Craig's successor. Who Is in the Running The Guardian, citing The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, reported that Callum Turner and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden are among the actors testing. Deadline reported that at least four final screen-test offers went out, with Lowden, Turner and Josh O'Connor among the names expected. The fourth has not been publicly identified, and some reports leave room for a fifth. The tests were expected earlier in October but slipped because of scheduling conflicts. There is still no firm public date for a decision, though many observers expect news by the end of 2026. More Than an Audition Bond screen tests are big productions. Reports describe three parts: stunts, presence on camera and dialogue, with hair, makeup, ...

Jason Segel's Wedding Shows Why Keeping It Private Can Be the Sweetest Choice

Image
Most celebrity weddings now arrive with a magazine deal, a hashtag and a carefully timed photo drop. Jason Segel and Kayla Radomski went another way, and I found it refreshing. The couple married on October 17 at The Huntington in San Marino, the same garden estate where Segel proposed in 2025, and most of what the public knows came from a few heartfelt Instagram Stories from the bride. A small day in a meaningful place A friend's photo of the invitation listed a "coat and tie" dress code and promised dinner and dancing. That is about all the planning detail anyone got, and honestly it is enough. Choosing the place where the proposal happened says more about the couple than any guest list could. Radomski skipped the classic bridal formula. She got ready in a white silk slip dress with a long lace veil, wore a short white dress for the ceremony, and changed into a long white gown with pink and green flowers for the party, with her hair in a loose braid she called ...

A Bleacher Serenade, 27 Years Later: Julia Stiles and the Power of One Scene

Image
Some film scenes become bigger than the movies they come from. Heath Ledger running up the bleachers to sing "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" in 10 Things I Hate About You is one of them. On Dancing with the Stars' Dedication Night on October 20, Julia Stiles reminded everyone why. Stiles danced a contemporary routine with Ezra Sosa to that song, wearing a blue dress like the one from the film. At the end she turned toward an image of Ledger, and her old castmates, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gabrielle Union and Larisa Oleynik, walked out to join her. The judges gave it 36 out of 40, but the score felt beside the point. Why the whole cast came Stiles told Variety that if anyone was going to stand with her representing Ledger's legacy, "it had to be the whole cast," and that they all rallied when she asked. She also admitted rehearsals were harder than expected, since seeing old clips and hearing his voice brought back so many memories. What I apprec...

Why Charli xcx Digging Up Boom Clap Hit So Hard

Image
Charli xcx is not a nostalgia act. Her shows live firmly in whatever era she is in, with maybe one older song tucked into the night. That is exactly why her Saturday show at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on October 17 turned into one of the most shared moments of the weekend. She played "Boom Clap," her 2014 breakthrough, which had not been performed live since 2023 according to setlist data cited by Variety. And she did not do it alone. Chappell Roan walked out to sing it with her. The story behind the song choice Charli explained it on stage. She plays an old song every night of the tour, and when she asked a friend to join her, the friend said the only way she would do it was if it was this one. That little anecdote is my favorite part. It turns a surprise cameo into something more human: one pop star asking another for the song she actually loved. For a lot of people in that arena, "Boom Clap" was probably a teenage song. Hearing it again, sung by two artists ...

Val Chmerkovskiy's One-Week Suspension, Day by Day

Image
Dancing with the Stars has survived plenty of backstage drama, but it has never benched one of its pros before. Here is how Val Chmerkovskiy's suspension unfolded over a single week, and why I think the show handled it about as well as it could. Monday, October 13 On the show's first "Super Bowl Night," judge Carrie Ann Inaba criticized a lift in a routine by Jenna Johnson, Val's wife, and her partner Harry Shum Jr. She even read out the definition of a lift. It was pointed, but it was the kind of critique judges give every season. Tuesday, October 14 Val posted on his TikTok story: "You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night." Most people read it as a nod to Will Smith's 2022 Oscars slap. He later deleted it, but screenshots travel faster than deletions. Thursday, October 15 Inaba responded on Instagram with photos of Val and Smith and the line, "So this is what we are doing now?" That post also came down later. The s...

Stephen Curry's $200 Million Year Is Really a Story About Sneakers

Image
The headline writes itself: Stephen Curry is the first active NBA player projected to earn more than $200 million in 12 months. Forbes puts his total at $203.6 million. But if you look at how that number breaks down, the court is the smaller part of the story. Curry's salary this season is $62.6 million, itself a record, since he is the first player past $60 million in on-court pay. The other $141 million is projected to come from endorsements and business. That is a huge jump from the $100 million off-court record he set just a season earlier. The Li-Ning bet The big change is his split from Under Armour last fall and a new deal with Chinese brand Li-Ning in June, reportedly worth $400 million over ten years, with a signature shoe due early next year. To me this is the real headline. A player in his late thirties signing one of the richest shoe deals ever tells you how much global brands value his name, not just his jump shot. He also works with Chase, Rakuten and Glaukos. Le...

Katy Perry at 42: The Smartest Money Moves Behind a $400 Million Estimate

Image
Katy Perry turns 42 today, and the birthday has brought back the usual round of net worth headlines. The figure most often quoted is about $400 million. It comes from wealth-tracking sites rather than any audited statement, so I treat it as an estimate. What interests me more is not the total but the decisions that built it, because a few of them were genuinely shrewd. She turned a peak year into a foundation Between June 2014 and June 2015, the stretch that covered her Prismatic World Tour and the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, Perry reportedly earned around $135 million. Forbes named her the world's top-earning celebrity for that period. Plenty of stars have one huge year. Fewer manage to keep earning at a high level after it, and that is where the next moves come in. She took a steady TV paycheck Joining American Idol in 2018 was, in my view, the most underrated part of her business story. A reported $25 million per season gave her income that did not depend on touring or c...

From Cannes to Marvel: Why Sandra Huller's Secret Cameo Makes Sense

Image
A few years ago, the idea of Sandra Huller turning up in an Avengers film would have sounded like a joke made by film critics. Now it is real. The German actress, an Oscar nominee for Anatomy of a Fall, has a cameo in Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18, 2026. Marvel is not saying who she plays, and that secrecy is part of the fun. Rather than just repeat the news, I want to look at how she got here, because the path explains why this move works for both sides. 2006: The first big prize Huller trained as a stage actor in Germany and won the Silver Bear for best actress at the Berlin film festival for Requiem. It made her a serious name in European cinema, though not yet a familiar one abroad. 2016: Toni Erdmann Maren Ade's comedy-drama gave international audiences their first real look at her range. It is still the film I recommend to anyone who only knows her from heavier work. 2023: The breakout year Anatomy of a Fall won the Palme d'Or and later the Oscar for...

Two Versions, One Home: A Short Guide to the JoJo Catalog Deal

Image
If you have ever searched for "Too Little Too Late" and wondered which version you were supposed to press play on, this deal is for you. Seeker Music has bought both the original recordings of JoJo's first two albums and the versions she re-recorded in 2018. Here is a quick guide to what that means and why I think it is one of the friendlier catalog stories of the year. What exactly changed hands? The purchase covers her self-titled 2004 debut and 2006's The High Road, plus the 2018 re-recordings of both. Those newer versions are being renamed "Clover Room Edition." The price was not disclosed, and neither was who sold the originals. The key point is that both sets of songs now sit with one company for the first time. How did two versions happen in the first place? JoJo was only 13 when "Leave (Get Out)" went to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 in 2004. Her label, Blackground, later went quiet, and she was stuck in her contract for y...

One Word, Big Expectations: Why Fans Care So Much About Rogue's Accent

Image
It was only one word. On a red carpet this week, Inde Navarrette was asked for a sneak peek of the Southern accent she will use as Rogue in Marvel's X-Men reboot, and she offered a quick, slightly sheepish "Sugar." That tiny clip still traveled fast, and honestly I understand why. Some characters are defined by a costume. Rogue has always been defined by a voice. The drawl and that teasing catchphrase have followed her since her comic debut in 1981, so anyone stepping into the role inherits a sound fans can already hear in their heads. An honest answer helps What I liked about the moment was how unpolished it was. Navarrette admitted she had not practiced much and said she would keep working on it and talk with the Marvel team about what they want. That is a far better look than a rehearsed impression that falls flat. The film does not arrive until May 5, 2028, so there is plenty of time to get it right, and she clearly knows people are listening. She has also talked...

Netflix Beat on Profit, So Why Did Investors Sulk? Five Questions Answered

Image
Netflix just had one of those quarters that looks great until you read the second page. Profit jumped, revenue landed where Wall Street expected, and the stock still slid around 6% after hours. If that sounds contradictory, it is worth walking through the questions most people are asking. 1. Did Netflix actually have a good quarter? By most normal standards, yes. Earnings came in at $0.87 a share against the $0.82 analysts wanted, revenue hit $12.87 billion, and net income rose to $3.66 billion from $2.55 billion a year earlier. A company growing revenue by roughly 12% at that size is not in trouble. 2. Then why did the shares drop? Because investors buy the future, not the last three months. Netflix now expects about $51.1 billion in revenue for 2026, the bottom of its earlier range and a touch below what analysts were hoping for. When a stock is priced for steady upside, "fine" guidance reads like a warning. 3. What went wrong with advertising? The ad forecast for th...

Fewer Cameos, More Jay-Z: What Made SoFi Night One Work

Image
There is a version of a 30th anniversary concert that turns into a guest parade, with the headliner almost a host at his own show. Jay-Z's first night at SoFi Stadium on October 23 went the other way, and I think that was the smartest choice he could have made. The Yankee Stadium run earlier this year was packed with big names, including Beyonce, Rihanna and Eminem. Variety described the SoFi show as "pared-down with purpose," and that phrase stuck with me. For roughly two hours the focus stayed on Jay, his band and the crowd. The guests he did bring meant something When cameos are rare, each one lands harder. Blue Ivy Carter played keys on "The Story of O.J." and "Dead Presidents," a step on from her turn on "Feelin' It" in New York. Watching a father and daughter share a stage at that scale is a moment no setlist can fake. Scarface came out for "This Can't Be Life," a song from The Dynasty that almost never gets perfo...

Chappell Roan Proved She Doesn't Need New Music to Pack a Room

Image
Pop careers are supposed to run on a steady stream of new releases. Chappell Roan has gone a long time without one, and her latest shows in Los Angeles suggest it hardly matters. Her two-night Super Graphic Spectacular at the Shrine Auditorium on October 21 and 22 felt like an event, not a holding pattern. A Benefit First The shows marked one year of her Midwest Princess Project, which supports trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities. A statement quoted by Rolling Stone said the project has raised over $800,000 and helped more than 60 organizations, with net proceeds from these concerts going to that work. A Guest List That Felt Like a Community Night 1 included Christina Aguilera joining Roan for "Beautiful," plus Lola Young, Tinashe and drag performers, with comedian Caleb Hearon hosting. Night 2 brought Caroline Polachek, MUNA and more. PinkPantheress joined Roan for "Tonight," Lola Young turned "Picture You" into a duet and Roan jumped into Polachek...

Mikey Madison's Quiet Comeback Says a Lot About Life After an Oscar

Image
Winning an Oscar usually sets off a rush of new projects. Mikey Madison went the other way. After taking Best Actress for Anora, she stepped back for about 18 months. Now she is returning in Aaron Sorkin's The Social Reckoning, and the pause looks more like a strategy than a disappearance. A Surprise Win, Then Silence Madison's win was one of the bigger upsets of the 2025 awards season. Demi Moore had been seen as the favorite for much of the race, and Madison was still fairly unknown to general audiences. She also became the first Gen Z winner in any acting category, which raised expectations overnight. Instead of rushing into quick follow-ups, she chose carefully. A recent EL PAIS English profile describes her as someone who likes cooking, movies and time with animals, and who keeps a low profile on social media. An Unusual Road to Acting Before acting, Madison competed nationally as an equestrian and switched to homeschooling to spend more time with horses. She has sai...

Spotify Is Finally Acting Like a Profitable Company

Image
For most of its life, Spotify was judged by one number: how many people used it. Its latest results show the story has changed. The streamer is now on track for its biggest year of operating profit, and that shift matters for artists, investors and listeners alike. The Key Numbers Spotify reported third-quarter results on October 22. Premium subscribers reached 306 million, up 9 percent from a year earlier and 1 million above its own guidance. Monthly active users climbed 11 percent to 788 million. Revenue came in around 5.0 billion euros, up 16 percent, and gross margin improved to 33.0 percent. Operating income was 672 million euros, up 15 percent year over year. How the $3.3 Billion Figure Adds Up Music Business Worldwide did some simple math. Spotify earned 715 million euros in operating income in Q1, 655 million in Q2 and 672 million in Q3, a nine-month total of about 2.04 billion euros. The company guided to 820 million euros for Q4. If it hits that, full-year operating pro...

A Rare Joint Honor: Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart Step Out Together

Image
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart have kept their relationship notably private for about two decades. That makes their next public appearance a little special. The couple will receive their first joint award together at the Women's Guild Cedars-Sinai Stardust Ball on November 18, 2026, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. An Award With a Purpose According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ford and Flockhart will receive the Hollywood Icon Award, which honors their careers and their long commitment to philanthropy. Media executive Byron Allen will also be recognized that night with a humanitarian award. The setting matters. The Stardust Ball is a hospital fundraiser, not a film awards show, and it has raised more than $70 million for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center over the years. The honor is as much about what the couple supports off screen as what they have done on it. Two Careers That Kept Going Ford, now 84, is still working. He appears as Dr. Paul Rhodes in the Apple TV+...

Why a Hockey Romance Series Is Getting a Movie Theater Run

Image
TV shows do not usually end up in multiplexes. Heated Rivalry is about to prove that a passionate fan base can change that. The hockey romance series is getting a limited theatrical run in more than 650 US cinemas from November 6 to 30, with screenings planned in the UK, Australia and New Zealand too. How It Will Work Regal is leading the release with Sphere Abacus, the Bell Media-owned distributor, and bringing it to AMC, Cinemark and other cinemas as well as more than 275 of its own locations. Instead of a single marathon, the six episodes are split into three paired screenings, and tickets cost $9.99 each, according to Variety. That format is smart. Fans can watch the full story across three nights out, or pick the pair of episodes they love most. Regal screenings also add welcome content from the cast and directors, and some cinemas will serve two themed cocktails, the Summer in Montreal and the Russians Don't Blush. Why Cinemas Want This The autumn release calendar has g...

Feliz Navidad Changes Hands: Why Old Holiday Hits Are Hot Property

Image
Every December, a few songs come back like clockwork. Feliz Navidad is near the top of that list. This week the recordings behind it found a new home, and the deal says a lot about why the music industry keeps paying for older catalogs. What Happened Reservoir Media announced on October 21 that it has acquired Jose Feliciano's recorded music catalog. His best-known recordings, including Feliz Navidad and his version of Light My Fire, were first released by RCA Victor after he signed there in the 1960s. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the announcement did not spell out every recording in the package. The deal also includes non-exclusive rights to Feliciano's name, image and likeness. That means Reservoir can use them to promote the music, while Feliciano keeps the freedom to pursue his own projects. Why Seasonal Songs Are So Valuable A holiday classic is one of the most predictable assets in music. It does not need a new marketing push to be discovered. Playlists, ...
