Thirty Years of Fantasy Bras, and Why the 2026 Return Hit So Hard

Three loose gemstones, two blue and one clear, on a white surface

Some fashion traditions fade quietly. The Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra disappeared for years and then came back in the loudest possible way, worn by Kylie Jenner on October 18, 2026, with a reported price of $50 million. To understand why the internet lost its mind, it helps to look at where the idea started.

How it began

The first Fantasy Bra appeared in 1996, in a print ad with Claudia Schiffer, valued at $1 million. It was a novelty, a jewel-covered piece of marketing. Then it grew. Heidi Klum's Millennium Bra in 1999 was priced at $10 million, and Gisele Bundchen's Red Hot Fantasy Bra in 2000 hit $15 million, a record that stood for more than two decades.

The long pause

Elsa Hosk wore the last runway version in 2018, an Atelier Swarovski design priced at $1 million. After that, nothing. For a tradition built on spectacle, the gap made the eventual return feel like a reunion.

The 2026 version

This year's piece was designed by Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. According to Vogue, it carries 4,410 natural diamonds around a 75.54-carat Fancy Vivid yellow diamond, took 15 craftspeople more than 1,000 hours to make, and weighs just under four pounds. Arabo said he wanted "a piece of high jewelry that could be worn as a bra. No fabric, only gold and diamonds." At $50 million, it beats the old record by about $35 million.

Jenner, 29, wore it with a gauzy mini skirt, clear heels and white feathered wings. The brand kept her name secret until she walked, which is a big reason the moment felt like news rather than a planned reveal.

Why Jenner?

Adam Selman, the brand's chief creative officer, told Vogue the show was built around "fandomonium," and that the Fantasy Bra was among the most requested items after the previous show. He called Jenner a "cultural powerhouse" whose reach goes "beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV." With roughly 380 million Instagram followers, she is a walking distribution channel. I am not a big fan of celebrity-for-celebrity's-sake casting, but here it clearly worked.

A runway built on nostalgia

The rest of the lineup leaned into memory, with Bella and Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima on her 21st show, Alessandra Ambrosio on her 20th, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley returning after 16 years, and a surprise appearance from Gisele Bundchen. Putting a non-Angel newcomer in the most famous piece of the night, next to all those familiar faces, was a clever bit of contrast.

My take

Nobody is buying this as lingerie. The bra is the show, and the show is the product. But after a six-year gap, bringing back its most recognizable ritual was a smart call, and a round number like $50 million travels well in a caption.

Thirty years in, the Fantasy Bra is still doing exactly what it was made for: getting everyone to look.
