Taylor Swift’s Chart Milestone Delayed Again as ‘Ordinary’ Refuses to Move
Taylor Swift is no stranger to dominating music charts. Whenever the global pop superstar releases a new single, fans and industry insiders often expect it to climb quickly to the top of Billboard rankings. But even one of the biggest artists in the world can sometimes find herself blocked from a major milestone.
Swift’s latest single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” has now spent 12 nonconsecutive weeks stuck at No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, unable to overtake Alex Warren’s smash hit “Ordinary.”
The situation has become especially frustrating for Swift fans because the song was expected to become her landmark tenth No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary ranking. Instead, “Ordinary” continues to dominate the chart with remarkable consistency.

As of this week, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” has held the top position for 29 weeks, making it one of the longest-running No. 1 songs in the chart’s history. The achievement pushes the track past “Drift Away” by Uncle Kracker and Dobie Gray, officially giving “Ordinary” the fifth-longest reign ever recorded on the Adult Contemporary chart.
While Swift continues to dominate streaming platforms and pop culture conversations globally, Adult Contemporary radio has proven to be a different challenge entirely. Unlike digital charts where superstar singles often debut instantly at No. 1, radio-focused rankings usually move more slowly and depend heavily on long-term airplay momentum.
That slower movement has left “The Fate of Ophelia” repeatedly falling just short of the top spot.
The song serves as the lead single from Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which has already produced several charting hits. However, despite the album’s strong commercial performance, none of its singles have managed to secure a No. 1 position on the Adult Contemporary chart so far.
